FREDERICK, Md.—Laurie Ward, a professional with more than a decade of experience in higher education, will begin as the executive director of marketing and communications at Hood College on Feb. 6.
In her position at Hood, Ward will implement and sustain a comprehensive and integrated brand identity and marketing strategy for the College in order to drive enrollment, increase alumni engagement and expand and enhance the College’s reputation. She will report directly to the president and be the principal adviser on all communications-related matters. She also will be the ambassador and steward of all marketing and public relations strategies.
“I am honored to join the talented team at Hood College,” Ward said. “Hood is a gem in Frederick, and under Dr. Chapdelaine’s leadership, I look forward to strengthening the brand and enhancing the reputation and awareness of this special institution.”
“Laurie was selected following an extensive and competitive search process,” said Hood College President Andrea Chapdelaine. “Her impressive experience and prior success in promoting institutions like Hood have prepared her well in promoting Hood and serving as our chief communication officer.”
Ward comes to Hood from Delaware Valley University, where she served as chief marketing and communications officer since 2012. At DelVal, she was a member of the president’s cabinet and oversaw all of the university’s marketing and communications efforts. She worked closely with the vice president for academic affairs and the associate vice president for admission to create strategic marketing plans that directly affected recruitment and enrollment. Prior to joining DelVal, Ward worked in marketing and communications at Ithaca College for eight years. She graduated from St. John Fisher College in Rochester, N.Y., in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism and a minor in English.
Ward succeeds Dave Diehl, who served as Hood’s executive director of marketing and communications from September 1998 to June 2016.
