March 28: Hood partners with Frederick County Department of Aging

Monday, April 3, 2017

FREDERICK, Maryland—The Department of Nursing and the social work program of the Department of Sociology and Social Work at Hood College will be working with the Frederick County Department of Aging on a “Virtual Senior Center for Homebound Seniors.”

This project emerged from a collaboration of community agencies to address the need for expansion of services to homebound older adults. This project will connect them with programs, services and peers to reduce isolation and improve physical and mental health.

The social work and nursing programs at Hood College work with a variety of community partners to provide students with learning opportunities that are meaningful for our partners and the community. The social work and nursing faculty involved with this project have extensive backgrounds working with older adults and support the work of the Department of Aging and opportunities for Hood students to work with older adults. The collaboration between the Department of Aging and Hood College will enable Hood to carry out dynamic programming that improves the lives of older adults in the county and provides students with the opportunity to learn and interact with community members. Hood students will be assigned in fall 2017.
