Nov. 8: Emily Stubits Named to BNY Mellon Enactus Student Fellows Program

FREDERICK, Maryland—Emily Stubits, a member of the Hood College Class of 2020, has been accepted into the 2017-18 BNY Mellon Enactus Student Fellows Program.

The program, which began in 2016, provides participants with additional training in project management, entrepreneurial thinking and financial skills in a free market economy. The program was designed to help students develop higher-quality projects for their Enactus teams with sustainable impacts as well as set them apart from the crowd as they prepare for successful careers after graduation.

“Emily is one of our most gifted students in the classroom, and she has taken a leadership role in the community,” said David Gurzick, Ph.D., associate professor of management at Hood. “With Enactus she is designing and leading projects that are aimed directly at addressing the most pressing food inequities in our community in sustainable ways.”

This is a very competitive program, and Stubits will interact directly with a number of Enactus partners, including Gallup, Last Mile Learning, and Common Sense Economics.

The initial program grant from BNY Mellon helped establish a pilot cohort last year in New York and New Jersey, and 43 Enactus students became the first class of Enactus Student Fellows. BNY Mellon expanded the grant this year, opening up the program to Enactus students across the United States. One hundred fifty Enactus USA students, including Stubits, were chosen to participate in the 2017-18 program. The application was open to returning Enactus students, and this year’s participants were selected based on the following areas: history of leadership within the student’s Enactus team; engagement with Enactus through events, advisory committees, and service hours; the student’s résumé; and a short essay on why the student should be selected for the program.
