Admission to Hood is now test-optional for some

Friday, August 9, 2013

FREDERICK, Md.—Hood College will make standardized college entrance examinations optional for admission for highly qualified high school students.

Beginning with the class entering in fall 2014, applicants with a grade point average of 3.25 or greater on a 4.0 scale can choose to apply to Hood without an SAT or ACT score. Students seeking entrance into the honors program will still be required to submit the standardized test scores.

Nearly 850 colleges and universities across the country, including some of the nation’s most selective, no longer require standardized test scores. Studies have repeatedly documented that high school GPA scores are more predictive and more highly correlated with college success than standardized tests scores.
