Wednesday, February 23, 2011

FREDERICK, Md.—Hood College was recently awarded a $15,000 gift from Frederick Mutual Insurance Co. to support the College's new athletic center.

Kevin Filler, president and CEO, and Gregory Powell, chairman of the board of Frederick Mutual, presented the donation to Hood's president Ronald J. Volpe, Ph.D.

"Frederick Mutual considers it a privilege and honor to make this contribution to the Hood College athletic facility," said Filler. "Our company and this College have continually existed in Frederick since the 1800s and we share the common core values of integrity and commitment to our stakeholders and community. We believe this new facility will serve the needs of the College along with the needs of the greater Frederick community. We congratulate President Volpe and the entire Hood community on the new facility."

Frederick Mutual was chartered in 1843 as a mutual insurance company to provide protection from loss by fire to citizens of Maryland. Today the company offers insurance of various types through a network of professional independent insurance agents to policyholders in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
