FREDERICK, Md.—Hood College will present three concerts in February.

The 16-member Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kevin Lewis, will present its fall concert Feb. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Coffman Chapel. Postponed from an earlier date due to inclement weather, the group will perform contemporary big band pieces by Gordon Goodwin, Chick Corea and others.

The St. Petersburg String Quartet will perform works by Beethoven and Shostakovich Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall. The concert will include Beethoven's F Minor Quartet, Op. 95 and “Grosse Fuge,” as well as Shostakovich's quartets 8 and 10.

One of the world's most esteemed chamber ensembles, the award-winning St. Petersburg Quartet has performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York City, and worldwide at numerous prestigious music festivals and series, museums, galleries and universities. The group has been honored with a Grammy nomination; first prizes at the All-Soviet Union String Quartet Competition, the Vittorio Gui International Competition for Chamber Ensembles and the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition; and the best record award in Stereo Review and Gramophone.
