FREDERICK, Md.—An award-winning musical duo will be the featured performers in the eighth annual Randall Family Chamber Music Concert Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall at Hood College.
The concert is free, no tickets are required and there are no reserved seats. Brodbeck Music Hall is fully handicapped-accessible.
Cellist Lachezar Kostov and pianist Viktor Valkov will perform virtuoso selections from the romantic and modern eras, including works by Debussy, Poulenc, Chopin and Liszt.
Kostov and Valkov have performed together for more than 10 years. Noted for their performances of standard cello/piano literature as well as their own transcriptions, the duo has appeared at concert venues in the United States, Germany, Italy, Bulgaria and Southeast Asia, as well as an appearance in Hood's 2012 Summer Chamber Music Festival.
They have won numerous awards and competitions, including the Grand Prix of the Music and Earth Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria. At the Liszt-Garrison International Competition in 2011, they were awarded the first prize in the Collaborative Artist Division, and prizes for the best interpretation of a work by Franz Liszt and for the best interpretation of an American composition.
The Randall family concerts are made possible by a generous gift from Hood alumna and former trustee Frances Delaplaine Randall in honor of her family. Previous concerts have included such groups as Red Priest, L’Arabesque Baroque and the Calder Quartet.
