FREDERICK, Md.—Hood College will mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of its African American studies program with a panel discussion and reception Oct. 24 in the Whitaker Campus Center.
Students who took courses, minored or majored in African American studies and students who were involved in student governance during the past four decades will participate in the panel discussion from 4:30 to 6 p.m. They will talk about their experiences and share how the program helped prepare them for life's challenges. A reception will follow the panel presentations.
The program was established as a result of the successes of the national civil rights movement and in response to students' request to add that field of study to the curriculum.
