FREDERICK, Md.—The 8th annual alternative break silent auction fundraiser is scheduled for Nov. 12 at Hood College.
This fundraiser will allow Hood to make the alternative break trips affordable to a greater number of its students, and all funds raised go directly to defray the cost of trip expenses. The auction will take place from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Whitaker Campus Center Commons.
Each year the dean of the chapel at Hood sponsors several alternative spring break trips that provide opportunities for students to participate in meaningful service-learning experiences during the fall and spring break periods. These trips are done in partnership with local nonprofits in the Frederick-Baltimore-D.C. region, including the Frederick Community Action Agency, the Frederick Rescue Mission and Earl's Place Transitional Men's Shelter in Baltimore.
Donations this year will include gift certificates, show tickets, artwork and baked goods. In addition to supporting a good cause, this is an opportunity for businesses to advertise to the Hood community. By supporting the alternative break program, donations ensure that Hood students, faculty and staff give back to the community through volunteer hours in this service- learning experience.
