Oct. 27: Speaker to give TEDx talk on integrity

FREDERICK, Md.—A nationally known TEDx speaker will give a talk about living with integrity and advocating for one’s beliefs Oct. 27 at Hood College.

Ash Beckham will present her talk, “Give Voice to Your Truth” in Brodbeck Music Hall at 8:30 p.m. Her goal is to help others recognize the power of empathy, respect and conversation.

Beckham has given similar talks at events throughout the United States and Canada, including more than 30 colleges and universities over the last year. She was the keynote speaker at the first-ever LGBTQ Conference at Harvard University and has been sought by companies including Deutsche Bank, Baxter Health Care Corporation and Altria Group.

Beckham became a viral sensation with her TEDx talk “Coming Out of Your Closet” and her Boulder Ignite speech, “I am SO GAY.” Her willingness to strike a conversation about tough topics inspired more than 8 million YouTube views across the country. Today, she considers herself an accidental advocate, motivating others to embrace the kind of social behaviors that trigger societal shifts.

There will be a question-and-answer session following the talk. The event, hosted by the Hood College Office of Student Engagement, is free and open to the public.
