FREDERICK, Md.—A baritone singer will present a recital at Hood College Feb. 28.
Joshua Hughes will perform at 3 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall, and he will be joined by pianist Hanna Shin and violist Joelle Arnhold. They will perform vocal music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Frank Bridge, Henri DuParc, Manuel de Falla, John Musto, Cole Porter and Gioachino Rossini.
Hughes has performed in opera, operetta and musical theater ranging from Gilbert and Sullivan to Puccini to Sondheim. He approaches a wide variety of roles with an inventive and intriguing manner that immediately connects the audience to the story at hand. Hughes most recently appeared in “Ruddigore” as Robin with the Victorian Lyric Opera Company and “Così fan tutte” as Guglielmo with the Bethesda Summer Music Festival.
A native of Smithville, Mo., Hughes is pursuing a master of music in voice performance and pedagogy at the Peabody Conservatory of Music where he studies with William Sharp. He earned his bachelor of music education from Oklahoma City University where he studied with Jeffrey Picón.
