FREDERICK, Maryland—The Graduate School at Hood College and the Greater Maryland chapter of Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) are co-sponsoring a speed mentoring event for women Nov. 15 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Attendees can explore new ways to grow their network and optimize their career savvy. In addition to speed mentoring sessions, keynote speakers will include: “Optimizing your LinkedIn Profile” with Kyle LeBlanc, “Salary Advocacy for Women” with Deepti Gudipati and “Interview Secrets” with Lisa Littlefield.
Some speed mentoring sessions will include:
- Is a Ph.D. right for me?
- Is a master’s degree right for me?
- Secrets for obtaining a science grant
- The art of professional networking
- Breaking into the health care industry
- Research industry employment
- So you want to be a PI?
- LinkedIn tips for self-marketing
- Salary negotiation
- Interview tips
Come prepared to have a great time, whether you plan to participate, mentor or just observe. STEM women in the Frederick area are welcome to attend, but registration is required at www.hood.edu/speedmentoringevent. During registration, participants can select their mentoring stations or sign up to participate as a mentor on a topic of their choice.
