Andy Nichols

Andy Nichols is the Baccalaureate Speaker. The Baccalaureate service is scheduled for May 19 at 6 p.m. in Coffman Chapel.

Andy Nichols is an adjunct instructor at Hood College. He is also the founder, owner and director of programs for Teamlink/Shenandoah Mountain Guides.

He has been featured in the National Geographic Adventure Magazine and Southern Living Magazine for providing the best mountain adventures in the South (U.S.). In 2013, he was named as one of the top mountain guides in the Southeastern United States by Blue Ridge Outdoors, and in January 2017, he was recognized as an “Outdoor Legend.”

A master outdoor educator, he is the lead instructor for the National Park Service’s Eastern High Angle Rescue Course (climbing) and is the founder of the Old Rag Mountain Steward program, providing visitor assistance to those who hike and climb Old Rag Mountain in Virginia.

A retired Navy commander, his favorite assignments were as the executive officer for Special Boat Unit/Team 20, (during Operation Desert Shield/Storm) and commanding officer of Naval Special Warfare Unit 2 in Scotland and Germany.

In summer 2014, he set off on a circumnavigation of the Delmarva Peninsula in a sea kayak of his own construction. The trip continues to expand, now encompassing the interior of the Chesapeake Bay (and ultimately, the entire East Coast). In fact, the journey may never end.
