Purnima Bhatt teaches a number of courses that include African History, Modern China and Japan, and Women Power and Politics. Her primary areas of interest are Africa, Asia and Interdisciplinary Studies. Her publications focus on women in developing countries and she is the author of two books: A Scholar's Guide to Washington, D.C.:African Studies, Smithsonian Institution Press; and Sharadabehn Mehta: Una Mujer Exceptional en al India de su Tiempo, a translation of the autobiography of an Indian feminist and pioneer in the field of women's education, 1882-1970.
