Lisa Copenhaver began her career in higher education while an undergraduate at Shippensburg University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations and speech communications and served as a tour guide in the admissions office.

Copenhaver later served as the registrar, associate dean, and finally the director of student services at Kaplan University where she oversaw and supported the student success office and the registrar’s office.

Copenhaver comes with a wealth of experience in retention, leadership, student success and student engagement working with traditional and non-traditional students across the country. She completed her master’s degrees in online college teaching and higher education leadership and management. She is currently pursuing her educational doctorate degree in educational leadership and management at Capella University where she is learning skills to lead and affect change in higher education.

At Hood, Copenhaver is responsible for retention and student success. She supports a welcoming and encouraging environment where students are asked to visit if they need extra support and direction while pursuing their educational goals.

Chelsea Danel

Chelsea Danel earned her bachelor’s degree in health and physical education at Messiah College.

After graduation, she went on to pursue her master’s degree in athletic coaching at West Virginia University. During her two years at WVU, she also served as a graduate assistant in the first-year experience office. She taught first-year seminar courses, met one-on-one with students as their success coach, and assisted with the new student orientation. Danel assisted students in developing various college success skills such as time management skills, major exploration, study skills, stress management series and test-taking skills.

At Hood, Danel is entering her second year as the academic success coach. She assists students in creating their own academic success plans to help them reach their academic and life goals. In addition, she teaches the GNST 101 course which focuses on learning strategies and methods through which students can become successful in college. Lastly, Danel is also the head women’s golf coach and assistant women’s basketball coach here at Hood.
