Judicial Affairs

Judicial affairs encompasses the rights and responsibilities of Hood students regarding their behavior in and out of the classroom. With the dean of students and the provost, the Office of Residence Life has the responsibility to adjudicate alleged violations for all students (residents and commuters) related to:

  • The Code of Conduct;
  • The Academic Honor Code;
  • Housing policies; and
  • Other College policies, as directed by the senior administration.

Student conduct system

Hood College prepares students to excel in meeting the personal, professional and the global challenges of the future. Hood is committed to the integration of the liberal arts, the professions and technology, the exploration of values, a sense of community and to the preparation of students for lives of responsibility and leadership. Thus, as members of the Hood community, students are expected to adhere to standards of appropriate conduct as defined by College policy and local, state and federal law.

The basic philosophy of the student conduct system is education. It focuses on the growth and development of student potential through the encouragement of self-discipline and responsibility by fostering respect to the rights and privileges of others.

Policies, rules and regulations have been established by the College to assist in maintaining an optimal environment for students. Students are responsible for becoming familiar with all published materials and for abiding by them during their tenure at Hood.

Academic Honor Code

As a place of honor and respect, all members of the College assume the obligation to maintain the principles of honesty, responsibility and intellectual integrity in all activities related to their Hood  experience.  Students are expected to adhere to the highest standards of academic honesty and integrity in all coursework and related matters. It is the responsibility of each student to support these values through maturity of thought, expression and action. Members of the faculty, staff and administration are available to assist students in this process.

Academic life at Hood is guided by an honor system. The basic aims of the honor system are to encourage and promote a trustful relationship amongst all members of the College community; to offer students the opportunity to exercise responsibilities and shared governance on campus; and to make students more aware of their personal principles of honor.
