What is ILLiad?

ILLiad is the electronic system used to request an item through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). The name ILLiad can be thought of as an acronym for InterLibrary Loan internet accessible database.

Who may use ILLiad?

Current Hood College students, faculty, and staff are eligible to use ILLiad.

What can I request through ILLiad?

Typically, ILLiad is used to request two types of materials: 1) copies of journal articles not available at Hood and 2) books not available through the ShaRC online catalog. You may also request dissertations and other media, bearing in mind that such materials may be more difficult to obtain.

How do I create an ILLiad account?

  1. Log in to ILLiad by entering your library barcode.
  2. The first time you log in, you will be prompted to enter your name and contact information on the New User Registration page. Please fill in all the required fields and click "Submit Information."
  3. After you've registered once, you will log in to ILLiad by using your library barcode and will not be prompted to enter your contact information.

How can I check the status of my requests?

You can check the status of your request(s) at any time by logging in to ILLiad and choosing "Outstanding Requests" from the menu. You can also review your request history to see what you've borrowed in the past.

How soon will my ILL materials arrive?

Most items arrive in 3-10 business days, so you should place requests at least 10 business days before your deadline. Materials that are rare, in high demand, or from out of state will take longer. We will notify you by email when your materials arrive.

Where do I pick up my ILL materials?

All books may be picked up at the library circulation desk. All articles are delivered to your ILLiad account as PDF files; log in and choose "Electronically Received Articles" from the View menu to retrieve them.

How long may I keep my ILL materials?

Article copies are yours to keep. Due dates for ILL books vary by lender; 3-4 weeks is typical. ILL books may not be kept for an entire semester.

How do I renew my ILL book?

To request a renewal, please log in to ILLiad a few days before the due date and select "Renew Checked Out Items" from the menu. If the item you'd like to renew does not appear in the list of items in ILLiad, please contact the ILL department (ill@hood.edu) to request a renewal. We will contact the lending library and then notify you of the outcome.

Please note:

  • Renewals for ILL materials are not always possible.
  • ILL materials may not be renewed more than once.
  • ILL materials may not be renewed after the due date.
