Six performance groups round out semester's recital schedule

FREDERICK, Md.—Six of Hood College’s music ensembles will present concerts in November and December.

The first concert will be Thursday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m. in Coffman Chapel. The 14-member string ensemble, directed by RoseAnn Lester, will perform works by Perry, Frank and others for strings alone, and the 36-member wind ensemble, directed by Brian Hinkley, will present works by Prokofiev, Dello Joio and Tchaikovsky. They will join forces to perform the last movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.

The 16-voice Chamber Singers, under the direction of Lynn Staininger, will feature a program of love songs, “A Season of Love: Songs From our Hearts,” Monday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall.

The Gospel Ensemble, directed by Greg Daugherty, will present its fall concert Wednesday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. in Hodson Theater in Rosenstock Auditorium. Themed “Praise is What I Do,” the program will include up-beat contemporary gospel pieces from Youthful Praise, Joshua’s Troop and New Direction.

The 16-member Jazz Ensemble, directed by Kevin Lewis, will perform contemporary big band pieces by Gordon Goodwin, Chick Corea and others, Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. in Coffman Chapel.

The Early Music Ensemble, directed by Willliam Simms, will present the final concert Thursday, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. in Brodbeck Music Hall. The 10 musicians who comprise the ensemble will present a program of medieval and Renaissance Christmas music.
