Prerequisite: HIST 217 or by permission of the instructor. (Course is offered as needed/3 credits)
This course is an introduction to the social history of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Emphasis is on the new scholarship dealing with the daily lives and careers of the non-elites or ordinary people. The course treats aspects of the social history of the early American family, the society of the Revolutionary Era, industrialization and workers’ protest, family and slavery in the Old South and the social history of the Civil War.
