One-two semesters of college Math (Calculus and Statistics are recommended)

The courses listed above are the minimum required by the professional schools. Each student should decide, in consultation with a health professions adviser, whether or not to take other science courses. The courses listed below are strongly recommended, but are not strictly required:

CHEM 301 Biological Chemistry I

Although most of Hood's successful candidates to health professions schools do major in biochemistry, biology, or chemistry, it is not necessary to major in a science field to be seriously considered for acceptance. It IS important that the candidate display a strong understanding of the basic sciences, have a very good academic record (a grade point average of 3.5 or higher is minimal) and good scores on the admission exam. Hood's successful health professions program is based on individual advising and rests on broad liberal arts preparation. Any student with an interest in preparing for a career in the health professions should contact Ms. Betsy Estilow, Health Professions Advisor, Career Center (301) 696-3583 or one of the Health Professions Advisory Committee members during the first semester at Hood and should register with the Career Center.
