The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) provides and coordinates institutional research that helps inform the planning, decision-making, budgeting, assessment and accreditation processes that allow Hood College to fulfill its mission and strategic priorities.
Office of Institutional Research and Assessment
To ensure consistency in reporting, the office performs the College data administration function, producing or coordinating all official data reports for a variety of external (IPEDS, MICUA, MHEC etc.) and internal accountability mandates. The office is also the College’s official source of institutional data for requests such as enrollment, information on majors and minors, retention data, graduation rates, grade distributions among others.
The OIRA conducts a number of surveys and data analysis that are used by many different departments within the College. It also develops survey instruments and coordinates efforts among offices to close gaps and to eliminate redundancy.
All surveys must be submitted for review and approval by the OIRA according to the Survey Policies and Procedures.
Individuals and offices wishing to conduct survey research must submit a Survey Request Form to the OIRA.
Planning and assessment
The office is responsible for coordinating and facilitating all assessment activities which are aimed at understanding and improving student learning. It assists departments and other units of the College in gathering information and documenting results pertinent to measuring assessment outcomes and institutional effectiveness.
The OIRA also acts as a central clearinghouse to collect, analyze, and organize data and to make the data accessible to users.
In all of its activities, the OIRA ensures the confidentiality of sensitive information and the anonymity of individuals in releasing information or reports.
