End User Computing (EUC) is in the mist of migrating all Faculty and Staff from Communigate Pro to Microsoft Exchange Mail Server.
What is Microsoft Exchange and why is it better? [top]
Using Outlook on a Microsoft Exchange server provides you with integration of e-mail, calendar, tasks and contacts. This means you have access to your important communications through your Microsoft Outlook inbox. You can access Exchange from anywhere–at your desktop, via the web or from your mobile device. It will be easier to find and share data, documents and schedules from wherever you are!
When Outlook is used with Exchange, there are additional benefits. Here are a few:
- access to Outlook on the web looks just like your "desktop" Outlook (using Internet Explorer)
- connect wirelessly to e-mail, calendar, contacts and tasks using your iPhone, BlackBerry or Windows Mobile device (such as Treo)
- share your calendar with others
- create a meeting request to preview attendees free/busy times with highlights of better days/time
- create a task that can be assigned to others via a generated e-mail message and, upon task completion, a status report is generated and sent via e-mail to the task originator
Access Your Exchange Mailbox From Your Desktop [top]
EUC will be providing Microsoft Outlook for Faculty & Staff to access your email from your desktop/laptop computer. Outlook is a personal information manager from Microsoft and is part of the Microsoft Office suite. Although often used primarily as an e-mail client application, it also includes a Calendar, Task Manager, Contact Manager and more.

Microsoft's Outlook Web Access (OWA)provides access your Hood Faculty/Staff email from any computer with an Internet connection. When you use Internet Explorer to access OWA, you will receive a significantly enhanced experience that closely resembles the Outlook desktop client. When using a non-Microsoft web browser such as Firefox or Safari, you will receive a "lighter" version of OWA that will still provide the user with the necessary features to assist in collaboration with other users. Outlook Web Access is an effective solution for people who require roaming, remote access, or cross-platform functionality.
For a brief explanation of Outlook Web Access, please view the following video:

Those Who Have Not Migrated [top]
