How does one request a projector?
Submit a request through the online form or at techrequest@hood.edu. You will be contacted within 48 hours regarding equipment availability.
What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is a Web-based software tool which supports and facilitates education at Hood College. It provides faculty pre-formatted templates that allow for easy entry of course materials into the system and a default Web page for every course offered by the College. It also offers facilities for interactive communication, secure submission of student assignments to faculty and online quizzes/examinations. Blackboard is intended as a supplement to the classroom instructional experience while enhancing communication between faculty and students through the sharing of materials and ideas beyond the context of the traditional class session.
Where can I find a projection screen?
Most classes are equipped with mounted projection screens. Other screens can be requested by filling out and submitting this form .
Where can we display a PC image?
Hood has many classrooms that are equipped with fixed data projectors for large-screen viewing. Projectors can also be requested for delivery by submitting a request through the online form.
What other services do you provide?
The Instructional Technology Office offers a wide variety of services ranging from one-on-one training and training classroom opportunities to instructional design help and media duplication to editing and multimedia presentation and media assistance.
Is it possible to check out equipment for personal use?
Yes, but only for on-campus events and scheduled college-related activities.
Does the College support older technologies?
Yes, the College currently uses legacy technologies such as overheads, 16mm film projectors and 35mm slide projectors. For a list of available equipment visit this form and browse the selections.
Classroom Technology
What's the best classroom/venue to view a Web site in a large-screen format?
Classrooms: Hodson 131, Tatem 109, Rosenstock 219
Venues: Rosenstock Auditorium, Whitaker Campus Commons
Do all classrooms have access to the Web?
All classrooms are wired for web access.
What technologies do these venues have?
Most of these venues are or can be equipped with sound systems as well as data/video projection capabilities.
Do these technology venues offer Internet connectivity?
Of the available venues, only Brodbeck Hall does not offer Internet connectivity.
If the room in which I am teaching already has equipment, should I notify someone before using it?
Yes, please notify us by filling out and submitting this form so we will have visibility of its usage.
If the equipment isn't on the form, does that mean that Hood doesn't have it?
The items listed on the form are ones which are available for delivery as requested. For all other items not listed, please contact techrequest@hood.edu with your request.
Classroom Services
Can I always have an IT engineer during my event?
Depending on the complexity of the equipment or services requested and the availability of an IT engineer, the Instructional Technologist will determine the proper course of action.
I want VHS videos duplicated, where and how do I make this request?
Fill out the service section on this form, and choose "Video Duplication." You must provide blank tapes for all copies requested.
I want to convert a media file from a Tape/CD/VHS/DVD to a digital file. Who do I contact to find out how to do this?
Fill out the service section on this form, and choose "Digital Video/Audio Duplication/Conversion".
I need training on how to operate a Data/Video Projector. How do I get trained?
Fill out the training request form, providing as much detail possible to help us answer your questions.
If equipment malfunctions during class, who do we contact?
You can reach the Instructional Technology Office during normal business hours by dialing ext. 3906. A page will be sent to the on-duty IT engineer, who will respond to your request as needed. If this is not an emergency you should submit a request for repair at the conclusion of your class period.
Do we have the ability to make digital video clips from VHS or DVD media?
Yes, we have video equipment that can capture audio and video and convert them into digital formats. This is a specialized service at present and is a special request.
I need a piece of equipment that is fixed in the room to be checked out before my class. Who should I ask to do this?
If you contact the Instructional Technology Office 24 hours before the event, we can schedule an equipment check and verification of the event space setup for your upcoming event.
