Choir to stage 62nd annual performance of "Messiah"

FREDERICK, Md.--The 62nd annual performance of Handel's "Messiah" by the Hood College Choir is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 22 at 3 p.m. in Hood's Coffman Chapel. The Montgomery College chorus will join with Hood's choir for the performances. "Messiah," under the direction of Brenda Weiser, director of choral activities at Hood, will feature four soloists: Rosa Lamoreaux, soprano; Barbara Hollinshead, alto; Rob Petillo, tenor; and Jim Shaffran, baritone.

Doors open one hour before each performance, which runs about one hour and 40 minutes. Tickets, which are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors age 62 and older, are available for purchase online at www.hood.edu/messiah or by calling (301) 696-3130. If available, tickets will be sold at the door. Hood's Coffman Chapel is handicapped accessible.

Hood faculty performing with the orchestra are concertmistress RoseAnn Markow Lester, instructor of violin and viola, director of the string ensemble and director of the preparatory music program; harpsichordist Wayne L. Wold, associate professor of music and college organist; oboist Ed Stanley, instructor of oboe and English horn; organist William D. Powell III, instructor of piano; bassist Lynn Fleming, instructor of string bass; and Anna Claire Ayoub, instructor of bassoon.
