Welcome to the Hood College Class of 2013

This Web site has been designed to assist you in your transition to Hood. It will have all the forms that need to be completed, copies of Orientation publications and other important information for you!

Check this site on a regular basis for updates; you will not want to miss the information we add each month!

Newsletters

Watch for a series of Orientation Newsletters that will arrive once a month beginning in May. These newsletters will contain important information about your transition to Hood.

Placement Testing

To ensure that you are place in the appropriate course levels or sections, new Hood freshmen are required to take placement tests in English Composition, mathematics and a foreign language, or meet exemption requirements for each test. Placement tests may be taken beginning
April 1, 2009, and must be completed by June 1, 2009.

Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation is designed for your initial transition to Hood! The program will teach you what you need to know about navigating through Hood and give you the opportunity to meet other new and returning students.

It is a chance for you to
  • visit the campus
  • meet with a Hood faculty member who will serve as your academic adviser and guide for the day
  • register for fall classes
  • meet other members of the Class of 2013

This is also a time for your family members to learn more about Hood College and the services available for them.

Summer Orientation begins with check-in from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the Whitaker Campus Commons and will wrap up by 4 p.m.

Summer Orientation dates are:
  • Friday, June 19
  • Friday, June 26

Fall Orientation

Fall Orientation builds on the skills and information you received during Summer Orientation

During Fall Orientation, the entire Class of 2013 will be on campus together for the five-day mandatory program, held Thursday, Aug. 20 - Monday, Aug. 24. Residential students will move into their residence halls Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fall Orientation is designed to give you the skills and information that will make you a successful Hood student. You will:
  • meet faculty members in your academic area of interest
  • learn about support services at Hood
  • get acquainted with the surrounding Frederick community
  • spend time interacting with other members of the Class of 2013 and upperclassmen

We are also planning several social events and entertainment for your enjoyment, including a professional comedian and a coffeehouse that will feature talented Hood students. Be certain to mark your calendars now for this important program!
