Merit Scholarships for 20010-11
Each year Hood College awards more than $6 million in merit-based scholarships. Hood is committed to rewarding the academic success of new students entering full-time undergraduate study. To that end, we have created a rich variety of academic scholarships for first-year students entering from high school as well as for students transferring from other colleges. Hood College reserves the right to modify or amend these scholarships at any time.
Applying for Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to first-year students based on an evaluation of their high school record and course load, SAT or ACT scores, and personal achievements. Transfer scholarships are awarded based on students’ prior college record and personal achievements. Overall academic performance, specific academic achievements, leadership and participation in school and community activities are important factors in awarding scholarships to both freshmen and transfer students.Applying for merit scholarships couldn't be easier—students admitted to Hood are automatically considered for merit scholarships, except the Honors Program Scholarship, the Hodson-Gilliam Diversity Scholarship, and the Hood Heritage Scholarship which require separate applications. Some of the scholarships do have application deadlines, as noted. Priority for other scholarships is given to students who have completed their application by February 15, 2009. Most scholarships are renewable for up to four years, and some require a minimum G.P.A. for their renewal.

Family Tuition Plan
The Family Tuition Plan enables two or more members of the same family to pay reduced tuition costs. For these purposes, a family is defined as mother, father and dependent children. Under the Family Tuition Plan, one member of the family enrolls as a full-time undergraduate student and pays full-time undergraduate tuition. Other family members enrolling at the College will receive a 25 percent reduction in tuition, graduate and undergraduate, whether they are full-time students or part-time students. All students admitted under the Family Tuition Plan must meet the regular admissions standards of the College, as appropriate. The Family Tuition Plan applies to tuition only and does not apply to board or other fees. As long as one member of the family is paying full undergraduate tuition, the Family Tuition Plan is in effect. The Plan is also applicable to the Summer Session if one member of the family is enrolled for at least 6 credits of undergraduate study.
