How to Apply as an International Student
You will receive your admissions decision as early as two weeks from the time Hood received all of your application materials. The following deadlines apply for fall semester (August).
For the fall semester (August) all first year application must be received by March 15 to be considered for fall. For transfer students the deadline is June 15, if transferring from U.S. institution.
You may submit a paper or apply online. If you choose to apply online, the $35 application fee will be waived.
Freshmen Application Requirements
Before you apply to Hood College you must have completed your secondary education or plan to complete in the semester before you plan on enrolling. Applications that include all of the following documents will be reviewed for admission:
- Official Hood College Application along with essay
You may submit a paper or online Hood College application, or a Common Application. Please remember to include a valid e-mail address with your application to help make future communication easier. - $35 (US) Application Fee
If you apply online the application fee is waived. - Official Secondary School (High School)
Effective immediately, international transcripts will only be accepted for consideration at Hood College if they have been translated and evaluated by one of the following professional organizations. We require a course by course evaluation. You can find a link on our website of acceptable agencies at National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or Hood's list of services. - Counselor recommendation
Please ask your guidance director, guidance counselor, principal or headmaster to submit a letter of recommendation on your behalf. - Official TOEFL Profile, SAT Profile, or ACT Profile
TOEFL minimum score of 79-80 Internet based/550 paper based/213 computer based, SAT minimum score 1050 composite (critical reading and math sections), or ACT minimum of 22 composite. TOEFL preferred test for students from non-English speaking nations. Students with scores below these numbers may also apply. - Financial information
If applying for an F-1 visa, you must complete the Hood College undergraduate International application and provide the requested financial information. - If applying as a student under any other immigration status besides permanent resident, please contact the admission office for details of what materials you may or may not have to submit.
- A student may also choose to use the College Board International Student Financial Aid Application and International Student Certification of Finances form to explain their financial situation, as long as they also submit supporting documents such as bank statements.
- Additional essay(s) and recommendation(s)
While not required, an additional essay on a topic of your choice and recommendation(s) from academic instructor(s) about your performance and ability will facilitate the admissions decision.
If you attended another college or university you will also need to have this transcript translated and evaluated by an approved agency.
Transfer Applicants

If you attended a college or university not in the United States you will need to have your transcripts translated and also evaluated. We ask that you have a course by course evaluated completed. - Required if you have less then 24 transferable college credits: official secondary school (high school) along with secondary school report form.
