Alumnae and alumni celebrated Reunion Weekend 2008
More than 500 alumnae and alumni, ranging from the Class of 1933 to the Class of 2003, returned to campus May 30-June 1 for Reunion Weekend 2008. The weekend-long events began Friday with a welcome barbecue lunch, after which alums went “back to the classroom” for Reunion College Sessions led by Hood faculty and Martha E. Church, Ph.D., L.L.D. ’95, chair of the board of trustees and president emerita. There were also tours of campus; a Pergola Society reception, as well as a reception for the Class of 1958 and all alums who have previously celebrated their 50th reunions; and an all-class dinner and party.

The sun shone periodically through scattered showers Saturday but the spirit of the alums was not dampened. Some rose early for a two-mile run/walk with President Ronald J. Volpe, Ph.D., and attended the “Coffee with the President” session later that morning to hear President Volpe give an update on the College. Class photos of each class were taken prior to the Alumnae and Alumni Luncheon, where four alumnae were presented with awards: Susan Warshaw Stinson, Ph.D., ’68, Distinguished Alumna Award; Harriet Fox Riehl ’66, Distinguished Alumna Award; Tina Wells ’02, Outstanding Recent Alumna Award; and Louise Renninger Rittenhouse ’48, Excellence in Service Award. Following the luncheon were tours of downtown Frederick; a reception for Hood athletes and the announcement of the Hall of Fame; a President’s reception for the members of the Class of 1983, who were celebrating their 25th reunion; reunion dinners; and an all-class jazz party.

The weekend concluded with the timeless tradition of Strawberry Breakfast and a chapel service, led by the Class of 1958.

You can read more about Reunion Weekend, Hood’s historic May 17 Commencement and more in the upcoming issue of Hood Magazine, which should be in the mail in a week or two.
