With the win over the Falcons, the Blazers defeated a second squad that went to the 2006 NCAA Tournament—the other being Capital Athletic Conference champion Catholic University—and avenged a 24-point setback to Messiah from a year ago. Sophomore Ryan Junghans was Hood’s top scorer against Messiah with 23 points while senior Darnell Edmonds set a school record with nine steals. Senior Sean Robine netted 20 points while junior Jesse Gutekunst chipped in 15. This week the Blazers continue their five-game homestand against two CAC rivals, Marymount University Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Goucher College Saturday at 2 p.m. The Blazers are currently in third place in the CAC standings while Goucher (4-6, 2-2 CAC) and Marymount (5-6, 1-3 CAC) rank sixth and seventh, respectively.

Freshman Jennifer Willison tallied 31 points in Hood's two games and was named to the all-tournament team. In Saturday's game against the Redhawks, freshman Sara Hartlaub blocked a season-high six shots, one shy of the school record held by current assistant women's basetball coach Danielle Allen. This week the Blazers begin defense of their 2006 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference title with a pair of league contests. On Wednesday the Blazers travel to Baltimore to take on the College of Notre Dame of Maryland (4-2) at 7 p.m. and return to Gambrill Gymnasium Sunday to host Mary Baldwin College (2-6) at 2 p.m.
