SUMMER ON HOOD'S CAMPUS: The College may be in the middle of what should be the slowest time of the year, but the campus has been bustling with activity during the summer months. Incoming freshmen, transfer students and their families have been on campus for one of four orientation days; students and faculty are conducting summer research; summer classes are in progress; Frederick community members are swimming in the outdoor pool, participating in swimming lessons and taking advantage of sports camps offered through the College; Campus Activities Board members Lenore Brown, Jovanni Mahonez, Collin Kinney, and Jen Gribben (pictured above, left to right) are working hard to plan the fall semester's student activities; and the staff of alumnae and alumni programs is planning events for the upcoming year. What ever happened to the lazy days of summer? |

KUDOS: Congratulations to Patricia Chapple
Wright '66 who was featured in the April issue of the Smithsonian Magazine in
an article titled, "For the Love of Lemurs." Patricia majored in
biology at Hood and is currently a professor of anthropology at the State
University of New York at Stony Brook. Patricia has spent most of her
career tracking down lemurs in Madagascar. In 1986 she and her colleagues
discovered a new species of lemur, the golden bamboo lemur. This discovery led
to the establishment of Ranomafana National Park in 1991. Congratulations, Patricia!
