KUDOS: A special thank you to Barbara Cummings Stacks '67 and husband, Myron, for their donation of three dollhouses and coordinating furniture for the Onica Prall Child Development Laboratory School. The dollhouses, which will be on display during Reunion Weekend, will be used by the children at the school to encourage communication, trust and other developmental skills.

ALUMNAE AND ALUMNI AWARDS ANNOUNCED: On Saturday, June 2, the Hood family will honor and celebrate the achievements of four individuals at the Alumnae and Alumni Luncheon during Reunion Weekend 2007. This year's honorees span several generations and represent numerous achievements and professions. The Outstanding Recent Alumna or Alumnus Award will be presented to Carol Deck Montoya '94; the Distinguished Alumna or Alumnus awards will be presented to Susan Gearey Van Pelt '79 and Judith S. Gavaler '61; and the Excellence in Alumnae or Alumni Service award will be presented to Erma Stull Grove '44. We will include more about our award recipients in a future Inter(net)actions issue.

OFFICER CANDIDATES FOR ALUM EXECUTIVE BOARD: The nominations committee has presented a slate of candidates for the offices of first vice president and secretary-treasurer of the Alumnae and Alumni Association of Hood College. The candidates for first vice president are Carol Deck Montoya '94 of Alexandria, Va., and Joel Durane '93, M.B.A. ’95. Click here to read about the two candidates. The candidate for secretary-treasurer is Jacki Resop Amato '95 of Baltimore. At this time, Jackie is running unopposed. BUSINESSES ARE STEPPING UP! As of this week, Hood has raised more than $33,000 toward the $40,000 Constellation Energy challenge goal! Constellation will award a grant of $20,000 provided Hood raises $40,000 in new and increased gifts from businesses, corporations and foundations. ALUM NAMED MANAGER FOR LOCAL C.P.A. FIRM: Terri Shoemaker-Kreit, C.P.A. '98, was recently promoted to the position of manager at S.E.K. & Co., Certified Public Accountants in Frederick. Terri holds a bachelor's degree from Hood in management with an accounting concentration.

CURRENT STUDENT RECEIVES HIGH HONOR: Danielle Sgro '09, a political science major who is in the Honors Program, is one of 38 national recipients of a Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant. ANNUAL SUMMER CONCERTS: For the 23rd year in a row, Hood will be offering a series of free summer concerts. The Summer Chamber Music Festival, under the direction Noel Lester, will take place on five Thursdays in July and August at the Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Ave., at 8 p.m. The air-conditioned church has plenty of free parking and ample handicapped accessibility. Tickets are not required for the concerts and there is no reserved seating. SOFTBALL (14-21, 5-1 AWCC): The Blazers traveled to New Concord, Ohio, for their second straight NCAA tournament appearance. Hood took on the ninth-ranked Division III team in the country, the Muskingum College Muskies, in the opening round game but dropped an 8-0 decision. Senior Christine Harvey collected Hood's lone basehit of the contest with a double in the second inning. In Hood's second game against Anderson University, the Blazers and Ravens battled through two scoreless innings before Anderson plated three runs in the top of the third. The Blazers got on the board in the sixth inning when sophomore Sara Wastler doubled and senior Tamara Maggard singled to bring around Wastler to make it 8-1. The Ravens stretched their lead to 11-1 in the seventh, which would prove to be the final margin. The Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference champion Blazers landed six players on the all-conference team, led by sophomore Jamie Gardner, who was selected as the league's Co-Most Outstanding Player.
