HOOD TO PRESENT 59th ANNUAL MESSIAH: The Hood College Choir and the U.S. Naval Academy Men's and Women's Glee Clubs will present their 59th annual performance of Handel's "Messiah" Saturday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. in Hood's Coffman Chapel. Doors will open one hour before each performance, which runs about one hour and 40 minutes. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for seniors and students. Tickets may be purchased Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the information desk in the Whitaker Campus Center, or by calling (301) 696-3964. KUDOS: Congratulations to Janet Spaulding Nunn '61, who will serve as the Hood College National Chair of Annual Giving for a two-year term that began in September. Since 2002 Nunn has served on Hood's board of associates and is chair of that board’s McCardell Professional Grants Committee. She has held numerous volunteer fund raising positions at Hood over the years. Janet will work to encourage leadership-level support of the College and promote the notion of making Hood a philanthropic priority. She will assist the College staff in educating Hood’s constituents, especially alumnae and alumni, about the importance and value of supporting Hood College.
SEARCH FOR NEW INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT VICE PRESIDENT: A search for the College's next vice president for institutional advancement has begun following the resignation this month of Mort Gamble, who is pursuing other professional opportunities. Nancy Gillece '81, currently director of major and planned giving at Hood and executive director of institutional advancement, will oversee all operations in the division until a new vice president has been named. CERAMICS EXHIBIT: An exhibition of ceramic works showcasing the theoretical events that take place in the kiln is on display in the Hodson Gallery of the Tatem Arts Center. Peter Pinnell’s exhibit, “Finding Art in the Ordinary: Ceramics by Peter Pinnell,” will be displayed until Friday, Nov. 10. FALL ATHLETICS NEWS: Four fall teams competed in post-season tournaments Saturday, Nov. 4. The
volleyball team outlasted the College of Notre Dame (Md.) in a five-set
thriller in the semifinals of the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference
tournament at Gambrill Gymnasium. The Blazers then fell to Mary Baldwin
College, 3-0, in the championship.
