Hood has one contest remaining on its spring slate before the Capital Athletic Conference tournament which begins next Thursday. The Blazers entertain nationally ranked CAC foe Villa Julie College Friday. Sofiane Lazar scored three goals on the week while Blake Rust, Jeff Balinsky (above), Dominique Shorter and Kris Miner also scored for the Blazers. Hood tied the program record for the fewest goals allowed in a 9-5 setback to the Christopher Newport University Captains Wednesday.

Jen Graham and Lauren Perzan (above) notched goals in Hood's lone contest of the week Saturday at Villa Julie College. The Blazers have three games left on the docket before participating in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament which begins April 20. Hood starts the week with a road contest at Lancaster Bible College Wednesday before returning home to host Ferrum College on Senior Day Saturday at noon. Hood's regular season finale is Tuesday, April 15, at Trinity University.

The University of Mary Washington halted Hood's impressive 13-game win streak Wednesday. In the opener, Jamie Gardner delivered a two-out, two-run single in the top of the third inning to cut the Eagle deficit to 6-2. But Hood was unable to plate another run and the Eagles went on to take game one, 10-2. In the nightcap, Sara Wastler went 2-for-3 while Katherine Law, Gardner, Ashley Lenhart (above) and Sam Smith all collected basehits. Hood, currently in fourth place in the Capital Athletic Conference, hosts a pair of league doubleheaders this week against York College (Pa.) Thursday and Salisbury University Sunday. Both the Spartans and Sea Gulls are a perfect 6-0 in CAC games this spring. Hood will honor seniors Kate Hassell and Alecia Weddle before Sunday's game.

David Blowe (above) and Mike Hardman both won singles matches against Wesley College Wednesday. The Blazers also took on the York College (Pa.) Spartans in a contest that was interrupted by rain showers. The Spartans emerged victorious after sweeping all three doubles matches and earning a pair of singles victories. The Blazers host two more Capital Athletic Conference rivals Tuesday and Saturday before beginning Capital Athletic Conference tournament play Tuesday.

The Hood College women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches and three singles matches to edge the Welsey College Wolverines, 5-4, Wednesday in a Capital Athletic Confernece match. Stephanie Garrett and Laura Wanner captured straight-set victories at fifth and sixth singles, respectively, while Morgan Wright (above) outlasted Jessica Lambert and the No. 3 spot, 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 (2-1). In doubles action, Christine Ocampos-Barry and Larisa Buriak bested Lauren Tarver and Rebecca Pennington 9-8 (11-9) in a marathon match at the No. 1 spot. Wright and Wanner rolled over Taylor Blackiston and Amanda Buet, 8-0, at third doubles.

At Washington & Jefferson, the Blazers picked up points in the steeplechase as William Andrews finished eighth in 10:38.55 with a Capital Athletic Conference qualifying mark. The 4x100 squad of Ryan Jenkins, Tomilayo Komolafe (above), Mike Cahill and Ola Komolafe finished sixth. Of more importance to the program, the 4x400 with the same four, configured differently, ran 3:31.79 to break the school record and hit the Penn Relays' qualifying standard while finishing eighth. Blair Ames continue to roll, as he lowered his school record 1,500 by five seconds to 4:12.48, another CAC qualifying mark. He also reduced the school mark in the 800 to 2:03.83. Justin Everett extended two of his jumping school marks to 20' 1 3/4" in the long jump and 40' 2 1/2" in the triple jump. The final school record of the day was set by Matt Haynes who threw 32' 11 3/4" in the shot. In addition to the school records, a number of personal records were set: Matt Haynes (discus), Jeff Lipinski (javelin), Tomilayo Komolafe (400), Brendan Greenlees (1,500), David McDuffie (400) and Mattia Mabellini (400 hurdles).

Hood's highest finisher at Washington & Jefferson was freshman Lauren Smith in the steeplechase finishing third in 12:43.16, lowering her school record and Capital Athletic Conference qualifying mark.
In fourth was Jessica Parrish in the 100-meter dash with a finals time of 13.12.
Danielle Sgro (above) slashed the 5,000-meter school record by 17 seconds to 19:35.21 with another CAC qualifying mark. In addition to the school records, a number of personal records were set — Sara Stiles in the 800 and 1500 and Kelly Keyser in the 400 and 200.
