Junior Ryan Junghans shot a 9-over 80 to lead the Hood College men's golf team to a 14th place finish at Susquehanna Valley Country Club Thursday. Junghans' 27th place finish was followed by teammates Andrew Alger and Aaron Prescott (above), who scored 86 and 87, respectively. Evan Chaney rounded out the Hood foursome shooting an 88, while Daniel Reid carded a 98. Prescott was Hood's top finisher at the Capital Athletic Conference championships, tying for 12th in the individual competition with a two-round score of 170 (84-86). Alger tied for 14th place with a 36-hole score of 172 (82-90). Chaney and Reid rounded out the Hood contingent with scores of 182 (90-92) and 217 (106-111), respectively. Hood finished fifth in the team competition in the inaugural conference tournament while Prescott was selected as the CAC Rookie of the Year.

The Hood College men's lacrosse team dropped an 18-2 decision to the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror (5-9) Wednesday in its regular season finale at Thomas Athletic Field. Jason Anderson netted his team-leading 22nd goal of the season in the second quarter off a feed from classmate Alex Tkacz. Blake Rust (above) was credited with Hood's second goal in the fourth quarter after the ball ricocheted off backup goalkeeper K.R. Schultz's stick and into the net. Sam Hofmann registered 11 saves between the pipes in his final game in the blue and grey. He ends his career with 673 saves, ranking him 19th all-time on the NCAA Division III careers saves list.

The Hood College men's 4x400 relay squad of Ola Komolafe, Ryan Jenkins (above), Tomilayo Komolafe and Mike Cahill broke the school record with a clocking of 3:28.68, placing third in its heat Friday at the 2008 Penn Relays. The Blazer foursome, racing against some of the elite collegiate programs from across the country, placed 67th overall out of 75 teams in the event in its first ever trip to the Penn Relays. Blair Ames, William Andrews and Ola Komolafe all bested school records Saturday at the Paul Kaiser Classic hosted by Shippensburg University. A partial squad traveled to Shippensburg for the event to compete against 18 schools, several of them prominent Pennsylvania NCAA Division II programs. Highlighting the men's events was William Andrews who won the 10,000 meters. In the process, he shaved nearly 90 seconds off his previous best, running 35:56.03. Ola Komolafe erased the last remaining men's mark from the club era, running 11.33 in the finals of the men's 100-meter dash to grab fourth. This replaced Mike Blackman's record of 11.43 set on March 13, 2004, the year of the club's founding. Sunday the Blazers hosted a 5K Run/Walk and Brendan Greenlees was the top male finisher in a time of 17:46.

A partial squad journeyed to Shippensburg to compete against 18 schools, several of them prominent Pennsylvania NCAA Division II programs. Danielle Sgro carved 11 seconds off her school-record 5,000 meters, dropping it to 19:25.37. So far this year, she has taken more than 40 seconds off her 5,000 meters bests and nearly two minutes off her 10,000 best. Her effort earned her sixth in a tough field. Sara Stiles (above) also ran a personal best in the 800 meters in the final meet of her collegiate career. Sunday the Blazers hosted a 5K Run/Walk and Sgro was the top female finisher in a time of 19:37.

Senior Awards Banquet

Forty-two senior student-athletes were recognized for their academic and athletic accomplishments at the second annual Senior Student-Athlete Awards Banquet at the Whitaker Campus Center at Hood College Sunday evening. During the evening, each head coach or a representative from the staff spoke about each senior and shared special memories from their time as student-athletes at Hood. In addition, several outstanding senior student-athletes were presented with departmental honors:

Coach’s Award
The Coach’s Award is given to a current male and female student-athlete who exemplifies the philosophies of being a Division III student-athlete and the Hood College athletic motto: mind, body and spirit. The male Coach’s Award was presented to Arthur Claybon (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) of the men’s basketball team. The female Coach’s Award was presented to Christa Lundskow (Hughesville, Md./LaPlata) of the field hockey and lacrosse team.

Dean’s Award
The Dean’s Award is given to a current male and female student-athlete who embodies all of the desirable characteristics of a good teammate and friend. The male Dean’s Award was presented to Jason Donnelly (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) of the men’s soccer team. The female Dean’s Award was presented to Lauren Lieb (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) of the field hockey and lacrosse teams.

Kim Servedio Award
The Kim Servedio Award is given in honor of a former women’s soccer player who passed away tragically in 1998. The award is given to a current student-athlete who best embodies Kim’s characteristics of sincerity, selflessness, and optimism. This year’s Kim Servedio Award was presented to Kristina Rendon (Rockville, Md./Sherwood) of the women’s soccer team.

President’s Award
The President’s Award is given to a current male and female student-athlete who has given outstanding service to his or her team, the athletic department, the Hood College community and the student body. This year’s male President’s Award winner is Faraz Shoai (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) of the men’s cross country/track and field teams. This year’s female President’s Award winner was Kate Hassell (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) of the softball team.

Scholar-Athlete Award
The Scholar-Athlete Award goes to a current male and female student-athlete who maintains outstanding academic achievement, demonstrates team and campus leadership and embodies the Division III philosophy. This year’s male recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award was Shane McCarrick (Myersville, Md./Middletown) of the men’s soccer team. This year’s female recipient of the Scholar-Athlete Award was Lindsey Nagy (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) of the volleyball team.

Trustee’s Award
The Trustee’s Award is given to a current male and female student-athlete who has shown outstanding leadership to the team, athletic department and the Hood College Community. The male recipient of the Trustee’s Award was Steve Delaney (above) (Pompton Lakes, N.J./Pompton Lakes) of the men’s cross country/track and field teams. The female recipient of the Trustee’s Award was Jamie Bussey (Newburg, Md./LaPlata) of the volleyball team.

Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Award
The Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Award is given to a current male and female student who has demonstrated exemplary athletic prowess throughout his or her four years at Hood. The male recipient of the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Award was Tom Noonan (Hauppage, N.Y./St. Anthony's) of the men’s soccer team. The female recipient of the Most Outstanding Student-Athlete Award was Amy Kaufman (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) of the women’s swim team.
