In its first week of Capital Athletic Conference play, Hood split a pair of contests, defeating York College (Pa.) on the road before losing at home to the University of Mary Washington. Junior Anthony Bennett recorded a career-high 19 points, including 13 in the second half, in the victory over the Spartans. Senior Jesse Gutekunst racked up his sixth consecutive double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds. Junior Ryan Junghans (above) led all scorers with 22 points against the Eagles while freshman Mark McGlone added 14. The Blazers entertain Gallaudet University Thursday before traveling to St. Mary's College (Md.) Saturday.

Sophomore Jen Willison registered a season-high 20 points on 8-of-15 from the field and 4-of-6 from the line at Goucher College. Junior Jessica Parrish (above) netted double figures for the first time this season with 12 in addition to picking off three steals. The Blazers dropped a 67-38 decision at York College (Pa.) in their Capital Athletic Conference opener. Willison connected on 5-of-11 from the floor for 10 points to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore Whitney Schultheis and junior Sara Wastler each tallied six points apiece and Parrish netted seven points and five boards. Hood has another busy week with three games on the schedule, beginning with a nonconference tilt at Philadelphia Biblical University Monday at 6 p.m.

The men's swim team won five individual events at the two-day Randolph-Macon Invitational last weekend in Ashland, Va. Senior co-captain Jason Kinder doubled in the distance events, winning the 500 free (5:17.13) and the 1650 free (18:35.38). Junior co-captain Matt Haynes (above) won the 50 free (23.26) and freshman Robert Ennis was a double winner in the 100 breast (1:07.07) and the 200 breast (2:30.63). The Blazers' next dual meet is slated for Jan. 5, 2008 at Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury University.

The 200 medley relay team of Lenore Brown, Katie Hitchens (above), Amy Kaufman and Kim Wolfgang touched out the Randolph-Macon squad by 0.38 seconds to take top honors in 2:03.12. Individually, Kaufman took third in the 400 IM (5:10.41) and second in the 500 free (5:38.01). Wolfgang placed fourth in the 400 IM (5:16.52), third in the 100 back (1:07.09) and second in the 200 back (2:25.38). Hitchens came in second in the 50 free by 0.04 seconds (26.61), finished fourth in the 200 free (2:15.41) and was fifth in the 100 free (1:00.36). Brown came in sixth in the 100 breast (1:19.61), ninth in the 500 free (5:56.16) and fifth in the 200 breast (2:50.74). The Blazers' next dual meet is slated for Jan. 5, 2008 at Capital Athletic Conference rival Salisbury University.
