Hood avoided the program’s first four-game losing skid with a thrilling double-overtime win over Gallaudet at home. Junior Ryan Junghans scored a school-record 47 points, including seven three-pointers (previous individual scoring record was 44). Despite being held scoreless in the first half, junior Tim Abercrombie (above) came up big after the break, scoring a season-high 20 points in the second half and the two overtime sessions. Hood also broke the single-game scoring record with 124 points (previous record was 114) as the Blazers registered their first overtime victory of the season in four tries. Hood hosts a pair of CAC foes this week in St. Mary's (Wednesday) and Marymount (Saturday).

Hood ended a four-game losing skid with a 79-51 win over Gallaudet University Saturday, giving the Blazers a season sweep over the Bison. Hood hauled in 23 offensive rebounds in the Gallaudet win. Sophomore Jen Willison scored 20-plus points for the fourth time this season on 10-of-19 from the field for a game-high 21 points. Sophomore Whitney Boyer netted nine points and handed out eight assists. Hood hosts a pair of CAC foes this week in St. Mary's (Wednesday) and Marymount (Saturday).

In Hood's regular season finale with Mary Washington, Jason Kinder won the 500 free (5:12.13) and was fourth in the 200 free (1:55.72). Matt Haynes finished second in both the 50 free (22.53) and the 100 fly (58.06). A.J. Smith came in fifth in the 50 free (30.16) and the 100 breast (1:23.49). Robert Ennis (above) was third in both the 100 free (54.22) and the 100 breast (1:06.88). Kyle Atras placed fifth in both the 200 free (2:32.62) and the 100 free (1:08.91). The Blazers next travel to St. Mary's College (Md.) Feb. 15-17 for the Capital Athletic Conference championships. In Hood's regular season finale with Mary Washington, senior Katie Hitchens was a double winner in the sprints, capturing the 50 free (25.75) and the 100 free (58.47). Classmate Amy Kaufman won the 400 individual medley (5:04.38) and was second in the 500 free (5:38.34). Junior Ashley Garyn placed fourth in 200 free (2:14.85) and was sixth in the 500 free (6:08.41). The Blazers next travel to St. Mary's College (Md.) Hood was one of 18 teams competing at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College Saturday. Freshman Justin Everett improved over seven inches in the men’s long jump to finish eighth at 19’1/4”, setting a new indoor standard. Tomilayo Komolafe (above) set a new indoor standard in the 55-meter dash of 7.20. Mike Cahill and David McDuffie also competed in the 55-meter dash with identical times of 7.36. Komolafe ran the 400-meter dash in 54.75 seconds, making it his personal best by 0.7 seconds over his best outdoor time, and marking a new indoor standard. Cahill ran the 200-meter dash in 25.00 and William Andrews (2:12.91), Ola Komolafe (2:15.81) and Mattia Mabellini (2:24.57) all competed in the 800-meter dash. Blair Ames and Mabellini clocked in at 2:54.73 and 3:11.09, respectively, in the men’s 1000 meter dash. David McDuffie, Tomilayo Komolafe, Ryan Jenkins and Cahill comprised the men’s 4x200 meter relay setting a new indoor standard of 1:40.73. And Tomilayo Komolafe, Cahill, Jenkins and Ola Komolafe ran the men’s 4x400 meter relay in 3:42.95.

Hood was one of 18 teams competing at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College Saturday. Katie Thomas also set a new indoor standard in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.21. Thomas’ quicker reaction time cut about a half-second from her score last week. She competed in the 55-meter hurdles (9.94 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (29.21), setting new indoor standards in both. Thomas also competed in the 400 meter dash (1:11.44). Amanda Kwiatkowski ran the women’s 55-meter hurdles in 11.35 and the 200 meter dash in 34.18. Lauren Smith and Danielle Sgro finished the mile in 5:55.83 and 6:0.83, respectively. Smith’s time set new school records for both indoor and outdoor in the seldom-contested event.
