Men's Basketball (12-6, 6-3 CAC)

Hood lost back-to-back games for the first time all season last week. Freshman Tyler Snoots (above) matched his career-high with nine points on 4-of-4 shooting against Salisbury University. Sophomore Mike McCarrick notched a career-high with nine points, all on three-pointers, against York College (Pa.) The Blazers, now in second place in the Capital Athletic Conference and a game behind the leaders, travel to the University of Mary Washington Wednesday before returning home to host Gallaudet University in a contest that was originally scheduled to be played on the road. The game will begin at 8 p.m. at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School.

Sophomore Jen Willison (above) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 24 points and 12 rebounds against Salisbury University. In Hood's tilt with York College (Pa.) Saturday, the Blazers held the upperhand early on but were unable to continue that pace against the Spartans. The Blazers take on nationally ranked University of Mary Washington Wednesday before returning to Gov. Thomas Johnson High School Saturday to host Gallaudet University at 6 p.m. Saturday's contest was originally scheduled to be played in Washington, D.C., but the home and away dates for this series were changed back in December.

Senior Jason Kinder (above) was a triple winner in two of Hood’s three meets, including the Blazers’ first win of the season over Frostburg State University Wednesday. Hood won nine individual events on the day. Kinder won the 800 free, the 200 fly and the 400 free against the Bobcats. He won the 100 back and was second in the 200 free against Capital Athletic Conference rival St. Mary’s College (Md.) Saturday. Kinder wrapped up the week by capturing the 1000 free, the 100 back and the 500 free against Penn State Altoona Sunday. Hood won its first dual meet of the season over Frostburg Wednesday by winning nine individual events. The Blazers host Mary Washington Saturday and will recognize Hood's graduating seniors before the meet.

Women's Swimming (4-4, 1-4 CAC)

Senior Amy Kaufman won six individual events and was part of two victorious relays in a 2-1 week for the Blazers. Kaufman won the 800 free and 400 free and was second in the 200 fly in Hood's win over Frostburg State University. She won the 1000 free and the 500 free and led off the winning 400 free relay against Capital Athletic Conference rival St. Mary’s College (Md.). Kaufman then won the 200 individual medley and the 100 fly and swam the butterfly leg of the winning 200 medley relay in the win over Penn State University-Altoona. The Blazers host Mary Washington Saturday and will recognize Hood's graduating seniors before the meet.

Despite having only three days of practice for the event and facing some Division I competition, the men's track and field team had an impressive showing Friday and Saturday at the program's indoor debut at Christopher Newport University. Freshman Justin Everett broke the school record in the high jump with a leap of 5’-5”. Everett also competed in the triple jump and the long jump and was a member of the 4x200 meter relay team. Sophomore Mike Cahill was Hood’s top performer in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.59 seconds and led the 4x200 meter relay team to a time of 1:41.15. Cahill also ran in the 400-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Senior Ryan Jenkins and sophomore David Frazier, who also ran with the 4x200 relay team, ran the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Juniors Faizal Johnson competed in the 60-meter dash while Tomilayo Komolafe in the 60-meter dash, the 600-meter run and the 200-meter dash in 25.11. The distance medley team of Blair Ames, William Andrews, Steve Delaney and Brendan Greenlees (above) was the only squad to contest the event and finished with a time of 12:42.56. Andrews also competed in the one mile run; Delaney finished the 1000-meter run; and Greenlees competed in the 3000-meter run. Because this was Hood’s first official indoor competition, all top times set new school records in their respective events.

Katie Thomas (above) was Hood’s top female performer, finishing the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 10.98 seconds, the 60-meter dash with a time of 9.11 seconds, the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:09.53 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 30.09 seconds. Junior Amanda Kwiatkowski clocked a time of 12.66 in the 60-meter hurdles and ran the 200-meter dash in 34.69. Because this was Hood’s first official indoor competition, all top times set new school records in their respective events.
