Men's Basketball (15-11, 9-7 CAC)

The third-seeded Blazers ended the 2007-08 campaign with a narrow 80-77 loss to the No. 6 seed Marymount University Saints Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. Junior Tim Abercrombie (above) paced the Blazers with 20 points off the bench. Ryan Junghans added 15 points and Allen Kees and Mark McGlone tallied 11 points apiece. Hood set four single-game records this season for points (124 vs. Gallaudet), field goal attempts (87 vs. Wesley), free throw percentage (.912 vs. Gallaudet) and rebounds (67 vs. Penn State-Harrisburg).

Women's Basketball (5-20, 3-13 CAC)

Hood traveled to nationally ranked University of Mary Washington Tuesday for its first-ever Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. The Eagles, who would go on to win the league title and automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, defeated the Blazers 84-34 in the quarterfinals. Allyson Lethbridge (above) connected on 4-of-9 from the floor for a team-high 13 points while Whitney Schultheis chipped in 10 points. Sophomore Jen Willison finished with 353 points on the season, good for 14th on Hood's all-time single-season chart.

Jason Anderson and Sofiane Lazar (above) netted two goals apiece in Hood's home opener versus University of Mary Washington Wednesday. Then on Saturday, Rod Hendrickson scored his first career goals in the blue and grey against York College (Pa.) Sunday. This week the Blazers have two more conference games on the docket. Hood travels to defending national champion Salisbury University Wednesday and Marywood University Saturday.

Jayme Frost and Brandy Noel found the back of the net for the Blazers in Thursday's contest with Bridgewater College. Then Saturday, the Blazers netted four goals against Capital Athletic Conference rival Marymount University. Sarah Balukoff (above) scored twice and Lauren Perzan and Noel added single tallies. Goalie Lauren Lieb needs just 16 more saves to become the program's all-time leader in that category. The Blazers have a pair of road games this week at St. Mary's College (Md.) Wednesday and Chestnut Hill College Saturday.

The Blazers presented first-year head coach Kate Barrick with her first career head coaching victory against the Columbia Union College Pioneers Sunday by a 6-5 margin. The Blazers rallied from an early five-run deficit and won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run double by Alecia Weddle to clinch the triumph. Sara Wastler (above) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the game. Hood makes its Capital Athletic Conference debut Friday at Gallaudet University in its only action of the week.

First-year head coach Jay Butler and the Blazers open up the spring slate Friday hosting Lincoln University at the Baker Park tennis courts. Senior Nick Gunther, junior Garrett Loomer (above) and sophomore Kenny Smith return to the court for the Blazers, joining newcomers Aboubacar Camara, Michael Hardman and Cedrick Hardnett.
