MEN'S BASKETBALL (21-8, 12-4 CAC): The Hood College men's basketball battled until the final buzzer but came up just short, dropping a 68-65 decision to the Hampden-Sydney College Tigers in an NCAA Division III Tournament first round game on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College. Sophomore Ryan Junghans was perfect on the night, hitting all eight field goal attempts and all four free throws for a game-high 23 points. Junior Jesse Gutekunst finished with 11 points and classmate Arthur Claybon chipped in nine off the bench.

MEN'S LACROSSE (0-4, 0-2 CAC): Hood has a pair of home contests scheduled this week. The Blazers host Salisbury University, the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, Wednesday in a Capital Athletic Conference game at Thomas Athletic Field. Hood also entertains DeSales University Friday in a non-conference tilt. Four different Blazers picked up unassisted goals in Hood's two games last week; Bryan Lentz, Jason Anderson, Sofaine Lazar and Chad Baker all found the back of the net for the Blazers.

WOMEN'S LACROSSE (0-1, 0-0 AWCC): Senior Laurie Burrier recorded Hood's lone goal in Hood's setback at Villa Julie College. This week the Blazers open up an eight-game homestand against Chestnut Hill College Saturday at Thomas Athletic Field. Last season, the Blazers split two meetings with the Griffins, notching a 16-12 win in the regular season before falling 17-11 in the Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference tournament semifinals.

SOFTBALL (0-0, 0-0 AWCC): Hood's first two home dates scheduled for last week were postponed due to inclement weather. The Blazers square off against future Capital Athletic Conference rivals Catholic University Friday and Villa Julie College Saturday at the Hood Softball Complex.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S TENNIS (MEN: 0-0, 0-0 CAC/WOMEN: 0-0, 0-0 AWCC): The men's and women's tennis teams open the 2007 spring season Friday hosting Salisbury University at 3:30 p.m.

MEN'S & WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD (0-0): The Hood men's track and field team scored in all 16 events and won two en route to winning its NCAA competition at Goucher College Saturday. Blair Ames won the 800 meter run and Mark MacKenzie won the discus for the Blazers. MacKenzie finished with 14 points on the day while Matt Haynes and Robert Lindsey collected 11 apiece. The Blazer women sent 12 competitors to Goucher and placed second in their first NCAA competition. Hood's leading point-earner was Katie Thomas who swept the hurdles and placed second in the 200 meter dash for 21.5 points on the afternoon. She also ran in the 4x100 relay which finished second. Freshman Katie Reichard became the first female thrower in Hood's brief history and picked up 14 points.
