After scoring six goals in a fourth quarter rally, the Blazers dropped an 11-7 decision against Catholic University March 18. Senior Jason Anderson (above) finished with a hat trick for Hood, while sophomore Sofiane Lazar had two goals and senior Will Oconis had one. Oconis also tied his single-game record with four assists. The Blazers traveled to Wesley College Friday where they came up short, 11-3, in Capital Athletic Conference play. Anderson scored two goals for Hood, breaking his record for goals in a season. Freshman Kris Miner scored his first career goal and senior Sam Hofmann had 15 saves in the loss.

Hood’s women’s lacrosse team scored a season-high six goals in a 23-6 setback to Kean University Monday. The Blazers hosted nationally ranked Capital Athletic Conference foe University of Mary Washington Thursday, falling 20-2. Sophomores Brandy Noel (above) and Sara Balukoff had two goals apiece against Kean, while freshman Kelsey Blackwell and sophomore Jayme Frost each had one. Balukoff and Blackwell notched goals for the Blazers against the No. 13 Eagles. Senior goalie Lauren Lieb had 23 saves for the week.

The Blazers went 4-0 last week, improving to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Hood swept Penn State-Abington Thursday with two 10-2 victories in five innings. The following day the Blazers traveled to Penn State-Harrisburg where they won both games of the doubleheader, 12-1, and 10-0, and extended their winning streak to nine. Hood’s nine straight victories mark the longest winning streak in program history, as the Blazers won six consecutive contests in the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
In addition, junior pitcher Jamie Gardner (above) was named the CAC Softball Player of the Week for the week ending March 16.

In its first match of the spring season, Hood’s men’s tennis team fell 7-2 to Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary’s College
(Md.) March 20. Freshmen Michael Hardman and Aboubacar Camara were both victorious in singles play. At the No. 1 singles spot, Hardman defeated Jeremy Butanis, 6-3, 7-6 (2), while Camara topped Jeff Levy, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 2 singles. Senior Nick Gunther (above) and the Blazers travel to Salisbury University Wednesday before returning home to host Chestnut Hill College Saturday.

The women’s tennis team also came up short to St. Mary’s, 6-3. Freshman Morgan Wright won both her singles and doubles matches for the Blazers. Wright defeated Morgan Collins, 9-7, at the No. 5 singles spot, and teamed with freshman Hilary Staufer to win at third doubles, 8-6. Senior Stephanie Garrett also won at No. 2 singles, besting Michelle Compton, 8-5. Caitlin Erickson (above) and the Blazers travel to Salisbury University Wednesday before returning home to host Chestnut Hill College and the College of Notre Dame Saturday.

Hood’s men’s track team won seven events and broke six school records to place second at the York College Spring Opener Quad Meet Wednesday at York College (Pa.).
Sophomore Blair Ames won the 800 meters (2:07.74) and the 1500 meters (4:19.52) in record-breaking times. Freshman Ola Komolafe broke the school record in the 400 meters
(52.20) in a first place finish. The 4x400 meter relay squad of Ames, Komolafe, sophomore Mike Cahill (above) and senior Ryan Jenkins finished first and surpassed the school record with a time of 3:37.4. Senior Robert Lindsay and freshman Justin Everett each set school records in field events.
Lindsay came in second in the shot put with a toss of 31’ 9 3/4", while Everett won the triple jump (40’ 1 1/4'’). Other winners for Hood included sophomore William Andrews, who took home first in the 5000 meters (17:14.6), and junior Matt Haynes who won the hammer throw.

The Blazers’s women’s track team finished third at the York College Spring Opener Wednesday. Junior Danielle Sgro placed first in the 5000 meter run (20:34.6) and classmate Katie Thomas came in second in the 100 meter hurdles (18.44). Freshman Kayla Murphy broke her own school record with a toss of 25’9 1/2 in the shot put. Sophomore Erica Hamor placed third in the javelin and freshman Nastashia Matos took fourth. Senior April Penn (above) and the Blazers travel to Fredericksburg, Va., Friday and Saturday for the Battleground Relays.
