Hood notched its best finish ever in the third annual Provident Bank Pride of Maryland tournament, finishing as runner-up to the McDaniel College Green Terror in triple overtime, 85-84. Senior Jesse Gutekunst and junior Ryan Junghans were named to the all-tournament team. Gutekunst set a tournament record with an astounding 61 rebounds in three games, including a school-record 25 against McDaniel in the championship. Freshman Mark McGlone (above) contributed 32 points, 16 rebounds, five assists and three steals in the tournament. Hood begins conference play Wednesday at York College (Pa.) and hosts the University of Mary Washington Saturday.

Sophomore Jen Willison and freshman Allyson Lethbridge tallied 13 points apiece in a 98-57 nonconference loss to host Christopher Newport University Saturday. Lethbridge drilled three three-pointers for 13 points in her debut in the blue and grey. Junior Sara Wastler also drained three triples and reached double figures with 11 points. In all Hood connected on 10-of-24 from long range as junior Whitney Schultheis nailed a pair and junior Jessica Parrish and sophomore Brianna Raithel collected one apiece. Sophomore Whitney Boyer (above) chipped in four points while classmate Christi Valdez had two points, two rebounds and two assists. The Blazers return to action Monday at Goucher College in a nonconference contest. Hood's first ever Capital Athletic Conference contest is Wednesday at York College (Pa.). Additionally, the Blazers' home debut Saturday at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School pits Hood against the University of Mary Washington Eagles, the No. 1 team in the country according to D3Hoops.com, at 2 p.m.
