MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Sophomore William Andrews paced the men's team for the second week in a row. In the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational Andrews competed in the 8,100 meter course and earned a time of 29:16. Following close behind in the long race were junior Nick Manning (29:21) and senior Faraz Shoai (30:08). In the 4,000 meter race, Hood's scorers were Blair Ames (13:40), Corlin Blakey (14:26) and Steve Delaney (14:35). For the women, junior Danielle Sgro came in first for the Blazers with a time of 26:22 in the 6,000-meter race, followed by freshmen Lauren Smith and sophomore Jen Willison. In the 4,000 meters, Sara Stiles set the pace with a 19:57. Lisa Blickenstaff and April Penn (left) also scored for Hood.

FIELD HOCKEY (3-6, 0-3 CAC): The field hockey team took on two conference teams last week. Against Villa Julie College, sophomore Jen Graham and senior Christa Lundskow attempted two shots. Junior goalie Ashley Saylor was able to minimize the Mustangs' offensive attacks, tallying a season-high 16 saves. Then in the Wesley contest, juniors Jess Head and Crystal Parker attempted shots for the Blazers and Saylor made nine more saves. Hood travels to nationally ranked Salisbury University Tuesday and University of Mary Washington Thursday before returning home Sunday to host Shenandoah University. Hood will also honor two seniors, Lauren Lieb (left) and Christa Lundskow, before the contest.

MEN'S GOLF (1-0, 1-0 CAC): Freshman Andy Alger fired a seven-over 78 to lead the golf team to a narrow three-stroke victory (333-336) over Capital Athletic Conference rival Villa Julie College at the Piney Branch Golf Club. Alger was edged by Villa Julie's Matthew Lukehart for medalist honors by a single stroke. Junior Ryan Junghans carded a nine-over 80 to finish third while the freshman tandem of Evan Chaney (87) and Aaron Prescott (88) placed fifth and sixth, respectively. Newcomer Daniel Reid shot a 107 and finished 12th to round out the Hood contingent.

MEN'S SOCCER (4-9, 1-6 CAC): Hood suffered three closely contested setbacks last week including two against Capital Athletic Conference opponents. Senior Shane McCarrick scored for the Blazers against Columbia Union College while sophomore Quinn Miller netted his third goal of the season against St. Mary's College (Md.). This week the Blazers have just one game on the docket against nonconference foe Goucher College in Baltimore Wednesday. Junior Tom Sprague (left) and the Blazers will be seeking their first win in three all-time meetings with the Gophers. Hood is currently in eighth place in the league with just one conference match remaining (at Salisbury University, Oct. 20).

WOMEN'S SOCCER (4-8, 2-3 CAC): Hood, winners of three straight, shutout a pair of Capital Athletic Conference rivals last week, including a 1-0 blanking of Villa Julie College for its first-ever CAC victory. Freshman Cara Jordan (left) scored Hood's first ever CAC goal in the second half. In a 10-0 victory over Gallaudet University, junior Jessica Parrish became the second Blazer this season and ninth player in program history to record a hat trick. Six different players scored against the Bison, and Jordan and Alexa Hubicki netted two goals apiece. Hood looks to make it four-in-a-row Tuesday when it faces off against conference rival University of Mary Washington at home.

VOLLEYBALL (2-18, 0-5 CAC): Hood played in four matches last week, two of which resulted in five-game contests. On Monday the team took on Catholic University for the third time. In a back and forth match the Blazers fell in the fifth and deciding game, 12-15. On Saturday against Shenandoah, the team again played a five-game match. Against the Hornets, senior Ashley Bryan matched a Hood season-high with 22 kills and senior Jamie Bussey collected a season-high 39 digs while freshman Kristina Straub (left) registered a double-double of 25 assists and 19 digs. Bussey is just 54 digs away from becoming the second player in Hood history to record 1,000 digs. Senior Lindsey Nagy now has 198 service aces, she trails career leader Ashley Cook '05 by 30 for the all-time lead.
