| MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Senior Faraz Shoai placed 22nd overall and clocked a time of 29:17 to lead the men's team to a strong fourth-place finish out of 10 teams at the Hood College Invitational at Heritage Farm Park Saturday. Hood defeated Capital Athletic Conference rivals Marymount University and Wesley College in the meet. Sophomore William Andrews also medaled and was Hood's second finisher in a time of 29:29 to place 25th. For the women, junior Danielle Sgro placed sixth among the competing intercollegiate student-athletes and the Blazers finished fifth of seven teams at the Hood College Invitational. Sgro logged a time of 25:41 and finished ninth overall. Freshman Lauren Smith (left) was the second Blazer to the finish with a time of 26:24, good for 17th place.
| FIELD HOCKEY (3-11, 0-6 CAC): Sophomore Sarah Balukoff netted her second goal of the season against Goucher to snap a five-game scoreless string by Hood. Junior Ashley Saylor and freshman Anne Marie Hantman (left) combined for 15 saves in the cage in the loss to St. Mary’s College. Hood has a rematch with the Seahawks Sunday in St. Mary's City in the opening round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament.
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING (0-0, 0-0 CAC): Hood kicks off the 2007-08 campaign with a pair of Capital Athletic Conference home meets. The Blazers host Marymount University Wednesday at 6 p.m. and York College (Pa.) Saturday at 2 p.m.
Head coach Don Feinberg, now in his eighth season at Hood, welcomes back eight veterans (two men and six women) who will join 11 newcomers this winter. Senior Jason Kinder (left) is coming off an outstanding junior season in which he earned all-conference accolades.
| MEN'S SOCCER (5-11, 1-7 CAC): Senior forward Tom Noonan (left) cashed in on a penalty kick opportunity in the 101st minute of overtime to lift the Blazers to a 3-2 victory over Randolph on Senior Day. It was the sixth game-winning goal of Noonan’s career. Sophomore Quinn Miller and senior Shane McCarrick also scored in the triumph as Hood halted a five-game losing skid. The Blazers wrap up the regular season at Cabrini Wednesday before participating in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament Saturday. Hood's first-round opponent is yet to be determined.
| WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-10, 2-5 CAC): Freshman Cara Jordan had a hand in all three scores in a 3-0 win over Shenandoah. Jordan netted a goal and assisted on two others. Freshman Katherine Rendon and junior Liz Rakowski also scored in the win. Jordan and senior Courtney DeSisto found the back of the net in a 2-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg. All six of Hood’s victories this season have come via the shutout. The Blazers host Marymount University in a Capital Athletic Conference game Tuesday and will recognize seniors Kristina Rendon (left) and Courtney DeSisto before the contest.
| VOLLEYBALL (4-22, 0-7 CAC): Senior Ashley Bryan combined for 25 kills in two matches as Hood split a triangular Saturday, falling 3-1 (30-28, 25-30, 24-30, 17-30) to Goucher before rallying to defeat Rutgers-Newark, 3-1 (30-10, 19-30, 30-25, 30-21). Senior Jamie Bussey had 28 digs in the two matches and became just the second Blazer ever to reach the 1,000-dig plateau for her career. Hood entertains Wesley College in a Capital Athletic Conference match Wednesday and will honor seniors Ashley Bryan, Jamie Bussey, Lindsey Nagy (left) and Caroline Woodhams before the contest.
