On the women's side, junior Danielle Sgro bested the field of 22 runners in a time of 20:26 in the 5K race. Hood won the invitational with 38 points, three better than second-place Villa Julie College and six better than third-place Southern Virginia University. Freshman Lauren Smith took runner-up honors with a time of 20:43 and senior Sara Stiles was eighth in 22:56.

FIELD HOCKEY (3-12, 0-6 CAC): The seventh-seeded field hockey team fell to the second-seeded St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks 5-0 Sunday in the quarterfinal round of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. Junior goalie Ashley Saylor made 14 stops in defeat, as the Blazers were outshot 38-5 in the contest. Sophomore Jen Graham collected three shots while senior Christa Lundskow notched a pair. Sophomore Sarah Balukoff (left) was credited with three defensive saves and freshman Patsy Davis tallied one in the losing cause.

MEN'S (0-2, 0-2 CAC) AND WOMEN'S (0-2, 0-2 CAC) SWIMMING: Junior Matt Haynes (left) lowered his school record in the 50 free (22.31) against Marymount University. MEN'S SOCCER (5-13, 1-7 CAC): The men's soccer team was eliminated from the Capital Athletic Conference tournament Saturday by top-seeded Salisbury University by a final of 9-0. After Hood's game with Goucher College was postponed Thursday, the sixth-seeded Blazers traveled to Fredericksburg, Va., to take on the sixth-seeded Mary Washington Eagles in their first-ever CAC tournament. Hood fell 3-0 to the Eagles despite 11 saves by freshman keeper Rachelle Buhrman.
