| MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY (0-0, 0-0 CAC): Competing in his first-ever cross country race, junior Nick Manning was the first Blazer to cross the tape at the Baltimore Metro Meet. His time of 17:38 was good for 27th place overall. Senior Faraz Shoai (17:44) and sophomore William Andrews (17:52) clocked in just behind Manning in 28th and 29th position, respectively. Senior Steve Delaney (18:42) and sophomore Blair Ames (18:45) finished within three seconds of one another to round out Hood's top five. Junior Danielle Sgro was the top finisher for the Hood women, coming in 20th at 20:38. Freshman Lauren Smith had a solid finish in her first collegiate race, placing 36th in 21:47. Seniors Sara Stiles (25:06) and April Penn (25:49) and junior Katie Thomas (left) (26:54) all scored for the Blazer women.
| FIELD HOCKEY (0-1, 0-0 CAC): Senior captain Christa Lundskow (left) scored Hood’s lone goal in the Blazers’ home and season opener Saturday. It was just the second goal of her four-year Blazer career. She was also credited with three defensive saves. Junior goalie Ashley Saylor turned away eight shots in defeat. This week the Blazers entertain Bryn Mawr College Friday before traveling to Rosemont College Sunday.
| MEN'S SOCCER (0-2, 0-0 CAC): Hood dropped both contests at the Frostburg State University tournament last week. Senior forward Tom Noonan scored Hood’s lone goal of the tournament, his 23rd career tally. Seniors Shane McCarrick, Noonan and Marcelino Rabara (left) were named to the all-tournament team. This week the Blazers have just one match on the docket, a nonconference contest against Valley Forge Christian College Wednesday in Phoenixville, Pa.
| WOMEN'S SOCCER (0-2, 0-0 CAC): Making her first career starts in net for the Blazer women’s soccer team this weekend, freshman Rachelle Buhrman put forth a valiant effort and tallied 13 saves in two outings last week. Hood makes its Capital Athletic Conference debut Wednesday against defending regular season conference champion York College (Pa.) at home.
| VOLLEYBALL (1-1, 0-0 CAC): Hood split a tri-match with Trinity University (D.C.) and Shenandoah Saturday. Against the Tigers, the Blazers racked up 33 service aces, including 11 by junior Jamie Gardner. Then in the Shenandoah match, Hood fought back from a 2-1 deficit to force a decisive fifth set but came up short in game five, 15-10. Senior Lindsey Nagy led the offense with 22 kills while senior Caroline Woodhams (33 assists, 12 digs) and freshman Kristina Straub (17 assists, 13 digs) each notched double-doubles.
Nagy moved into fifth place all-time on Hood's career kills list (605). She is five away from tying Jennifer Jones '06 for fourth place.
