Temp & Placement Agencies
How to Start
Temp and placement agencies can be excellent resources when searching for a job. To initiate contact, start by giving them a call and asking how to apply to work using their services. Generally, you will be asked to go to a local office, fill out an application, talk about the kinds of jobs you are interested in, and discuss options with a recruiter. You might be given basic tests to identify and verify computer skills, reading and writing competencies, safety knowledge, and related skills. After successful completion of your application and any associated testing, your name will be added to the agency's list of available candidates and you will be contacted when opportunities arise. Each agency's system is slightly different, so be sure to ask questions if something isn't clear. It is important to follow up regularly with the temp agency or agencies you sign up with. Call each morning to find out if there are any assignments for you! This shows that you are motivated and proactive. It's also a good idea to check out a company's website!
