Interview Assistance

The Career Center has many resources available to help you with your interview. Among these are the many books in our library, the events we offer and the interview-related fliers we hand out.

Mock Interviews

Our career counselors are available to meet one-on-one with clients to conduct practice interviews and provide constructive feedback. Mock interviews provide participants with a chance to practice their interviewing skills in a low-stress environment. All students, regardless of age or background, are encouraged to complete a mock interview prior to a job search.

To participate in a mock interview, please follow these steps:

  1. Make an appointment with the Career Center by calling (301) 696-3583. Be sure to tell the person making the appointment that you'd like to do a mock interview.
  2. At least 24 hours before your appointment, provide the Career Center with a copy of your résumé and information about the kind of positions you are applying for. These two items can either be faxed (301) 696-3561 or emailed (careers@hood.edu).
  3. Prepare for the mock interview as if it were the real thing:
    1. Dress professionally.
    2. Bring copies of your résumé and references.
    3. Arrive on time for your appointment.
  4. From the outset the career counselor will treat you just like a regular job applicant. You will be asked both standard interview questions and ones geared towards your particular area of interest.
  5. After the interview, the career counselor will assess your interview and suggest how you can improve your performance and preparation.
