Hood College H1N1 Plan

The Wellness Center, Campus Safety and Risk Management Team have been meeting and working with the Frederick County Health Department to plan Hood College’s response to any occurrence of the flu on campus and plan ways to prevent the spread of the H1N1.

Our plan is to communicate information regarding H1N1 to the campus using this Web site and e-mail bulletins. Critical information will be announced using the emergency information plan. The health center frequently receives critical updates regarding H1N1 from the Frederick County Health Department.

The most up-to-date and accurate information regarding the flu can be found on the CDC Web Site. Go to www.flu.gov to find info on symptoms, treatment, care of illness, vaccine information and isolation procedures.

The Health Center staff will communicate the College’s prevention strategies to the Hood community via posters placed in strategic areas.

Hand washing and covering coughs are key elements in prevention. When and if masks are needed is still under discussion. Hood College has signed up with the Frederick County Health Department to receive the H1N1 vaccine if and when it becomes available.

Self isolation, if you have a fever greater than 100 degrees Fahrenheit, sore throat and cough, is recommended. You should stay home and avoid contact with others for seven days after the onset of the symptoms or until you have had no fever for 24 hours, whichever is longer.

Changes will be made to this Web page as necessary. If you have any questions, please refer to www.flu.gov or call the Health Center at (301) 696-3439.
