Mission
The Hood College Counseling Center’s staff provide services to support the educational mission of the College. These services support students in realizing maximum benefit from both their academic and their out-of-class learning experiences.The Counseling Center operates on a wellness model. We offer both counseling and prevention programs designed to increase awareness and skills for managing and enhancing mental health and well-being.
Services provided
The services offered demonstrate the mission to support students, promote wellness and teach skills to last a lifetime. These include:- Brief, supportive individual counseling
- Support groups
- Crisis management
- Wellness and psychoeducational programs
- Consultation with faculty, staff, administration, parents and local community members
- Referral to off-campus service providers
- Mediation
- Self-help brochures and lending library
Eligibility
All matriculated and currently enrolled undergraduate Hood College students are eligible for services at no cost. Faculty, staff and graduate students may schedule a visit for consultation and referral.

The Counseling Center is open 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Contact one of the counselors at ext. 3441 or ext. 3440 to leave a confidential message or to schedule an appointment.Emergencies
If you have an emergency when a counselor is not available you may:- Contact an RA or Area Coordinator in your residence hall
- Call the Frederick County Hotline: (301) 662-2255
- Talk with a trusted faculty or staff member
- Go to the emergency room at Frederick Memorial Hospital (call Campus Safety at ext. 3111 if you need transportation to the ER)
