Sept. 22: New full-tuition scholarship to launch in fall 2017

Thursday, September 22, 2016

FREDERICK, Md.—Hood College is pleased to announce a new, full-tuition scholarship that will launch in the fall 2017.

The Chair of the Board Scholarship has been made possible through a generous gift from Judy Messina ’66, Hood alumna and vice chair of the Board of Trustees, and her husband, David Fleischer. This highly prestigious scholarship will provide four full-tuition awards to academically superior students.

These students will have the distinctive opportunity to benefit from the challenging and rewarding academic programs Hood offers in a supportive and welcoming community with all tuition costs fully covered by the scholarship. All admitted first-year students will be considered for this prestigious award provided they have completed the application process by Jan. 15. Successful candidates will have a record of outstanding academic achievement as well as accomplishments outside the classroom. It is expected that recipients will have demonstrated the talent, ability, academic achievement and motivation to compete for national and international recognition by the end of their undergraduate careers.

All candidates will be invited to attend Scholars Day, scheduled for Feb. 11, 2017, which will include a scholarship interview, meetings with faculty and current honors students, and lunch with the president and provost. Four Chair of the Board Scholars will be named two weeks following Scholars Day.

This award is renewable annually, up to four years, provided the recipient maintains a 3.5 GPA and is making satisfactory progress toward a bachelor’s degree. For more information, contact the Office of Admission at 301-696-3400 or admission@hood.edu.
